Alanis Morissette Gives "Ironic" A Modern Twist

If you were a teenager in the 90s, odds are that you screamed your heart out along to Alanis Morissette's music at least a few times. "You Oughta Know" was basically my teen anthem. But times have changed, and when Morissette performed "Ironic" on Monday night's "Late, Late Show" with James Corden, she updated her iconic lyrics to be more in tune with today's struggles.

Morissette used the new version of "Ironic" to poke fun at social media, beginning the song with, "An old friend / sends you a Facebook request / and you only find out they're racist / after you accept." She also took a stab at the exclusion of women from late night TV with this spin on her classic lyrics: "It's ten thousand late night male hosts / when all you want is just one woman, seriously!"

The best part of Morissette's performance came when she threw grammar nerds everywhere a bone with the line "it's singing Ironic / but there are no ironies." Finally, we can all exhale and agree that "Ironic" isn't actually ironic. It figures.
